Pieces of furniture are solidly crafted using traditional joints like dovetail joints or wedges. This applies to most of our products, except for the rustic chairs (codes: 411-414), bench (code: 511) that you can take apart into seat and back and wardrobes (codes: 371-375) that you can knock down and put back together with removable wedges.
Although inspired mostly by folk art, the pieces are designed for a modern household use, having comfortable sizes and modern functions (music chest with compartments for LPs, CDs, videotapes).
Our furniture is crafted mostly from pinewood, however, upon request linden, oak, beech or walnut can be used instead.
Even though our wood is kilndried to 8-10 % (moisture content), solid wood is a "living" material. It will take up moisture from the air or it will release it to the air according to the sorrounding humidity. Small surface cracks that do not appear during the construction may thus appear later enhancing the patina.
Background colors, consisting of home-made milkpaint, are also hand-painted and are sanded back to reveal the grain, the knots and nuances of the wood. The furniture is then hand-painted with the flower ornaments (or other motifs) using water soluble paints. The decorated surface is protected with several layers of oil-glaze and water-soluble or wax-oil based varnish. The insides are finished with natural beewax or water-soluble varnish. One of our major concerns in the painting process is to keep the furniture as environmentally safe as possible.
